Gravity Feed Airbrush Diagram
A gravity feed airbrush can have a paint cup or reservoir on either the top or side of the airbrush. Paint is poured into the cup or reservoir and when the operator pulls back on the trigger, the paint seeps into the mixing chamber where it is mixed with air before being pushed through the nozzle and sprayed out the tip.

Some gravity feed airbrush models have different sizes of cups that can be inter-changed. However, as gravity feed airbrushes are used for detail work where only small amounts of paint are applied at one time, the cup on a gravity feed airbrush rarely holds more than about 1 oz. of paint.
The caps that go on gravity feed airbrush cups have a small hole in the middle of them to prevent a vacuum from developing. It is critical that this hole remain open to maintain proper paint flow. Often times this small hole can become plugged with dry paint.
